The Labour-led joint administration of Southend Council has made payments for 1,658 small business grants and 479 retail, hospitality & leisure grants as of Sunday 26th April. These total £26.1 million.

Around 900 more applications have been processed, and the Council is awaiting further details from applicants in around a third of these cases in order to make payment. The remaining applications are either duplicate or rejected claims. We thank the hard-working council staff who have processed so many applications in such a short time.

In total, the Council has received around 3,100 applications and have processed 3,033 (98%). As of last night there only remain 71 grant applications that have not yet had an initial review.

Businesses who have not yet applied for a grant are being encouraged to do so – they need to visit www.southend.gov.uk/businessgrants for more information and to apply.
