At its meeting on Tuesday 17th September, Southend Council’s Cabinet declared a climate emergency in response to a motion put by Labour councillors Matt Dent and Kay Mitchell. Southend Council will now be adopting radical policies to move to carbon neutrality by 2030.

That may seem a fairly long timescale, but it’s not a short-term issue and this is more than any previous local council administration has ever done: under Labour, our council is taking the environment seriously and responding to the climate crisis that we are all facing. Councillors Matt Dent and Kay Mitchell will be happy to give further information to any residents who wish to get in touch with them.
