Maxine Sadza – Labour’s Candidate for Blenheim Park Ward
Maxine worked for the NHS prior to her retirement and holds a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology. She is very active in the ‘Save Southend NHS’ and ‘Keep our NHS Public’ campaigns and is a volunteer helper at the King’s Church Qube Youth Group at Blenheim Primary School. Maxine has been active in local politics for some time, especially on issues that particularly affect women, and has organised events to encourage more women to engage in politics. She was part of the campaign team that worked successfully for the election of Labour’s Laurie Burton as a councillor for Blenheim Park Ward last May.
Maxine says, “I know this area well and talk with residents all the time, so I am very aware of the problems with poor road surfaces, street cleaning, fly-tipping and parking that are of particular concern here. I shall work hard with my colleague Councillor Laurie Burton to address those. On a larger scale, I am very concerned at the lack of affordable housing and the continued austerity measures being imposed by the Conservative government that have led to cuts to policing in the borough and the rise in violent crime. I am also concerned about the closure of children’s centres and cuts to social services”
“The Tories on Southend Council have consistently failed to address those issues and the detrimental changes to local social care and education provision despite all their time in power, and it’s time for a majority Labour administration to bring in changes for the benefit of the people of Southend. If I am elected in May, I shall work hard in representing the interests of the residents of Blenheim Park ward and on making Southend a great place to live, work and bring up families.”
