Culture for all in Southend
There is much about Southend to celebrate – we will address the needs of Southend people whilst recognising the importance of the jobs and money brought to the area by visitors.
Enhance the town’s heritage and embrace its full range of culture: traditional and modern. For example, we will assist heritage groups to apply for funding with which to enhance the character of our public spaces.
Reinvigorate our public spaces using planting, public art and water features; our young people are talented and skilled, and we will give them the opportunity to show their work across the borough.
Reduce the barriers to groups organising community events, and champion the success of community-run initiatives that put Southend on the map such as Leigh Folk Festival, Southend Pride, and events on Shoebury East beach.
Invest in performance-art space, and actively promote opportunities for young people to participate in music and theatre.
