Lydia Hyde – Labour’s candidate for St Laurence
Having come an extremely close second in the 2021 elections, Lydia is determined to win the privilege to represent St Laurence as it’s new Councillor in 2022, working in partnership with Cllr Daniel Cowan.
With a strong focus on listening to residents and representing their views, she has not stopped working hard to make sure their voices are heard. Whether it’s campaigning on ward issues, ensuring residents are aware of local information, or even rolling up her sleeves to clean up the ward herself, Lydia is a formidable force, fighting for every resident.
Having spoken to many residents already, she will be giving immediate focus to:
- PAVEMENTS: Lydia is a well-known campaigner on improving foothpath surfaces and ensuring that every resident can feel safe walking around their neighbourhood. She will continue to make the case for resurfacing and repair of our pavements
- SPEEDING: With several roads of concern in St Laurence, Lydia will work with Daniel to bring in speed calming measures, particularly around schools and care homes
- PARKING: Inconsiderate parking can often deny residents without off street parking the opportunity to park near their home. Lydia will consult with residents into finding practical solutions that prioritises residents
- PARKS AND STREET PLANTING: Passionate about the environment, Lydia will push for an expansion of tree, hedge, and wildflower planting on our roads and improve park amenities
Lydia also brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the Council. As a scientist by profession she is highly adept at making fact-driven decisions, and will use her innovative mind to bring fresh ideas to solve longstanding problems. Having worked in policing and defence for over a decade, she is driven by a huge sense of public duty and brings substantial knowledge regarding public safety. She has also extensively volunteered in the community, having given thousands of hours to youth work, nature, and tackling homelessness.
