Kathy Murphy – Labour’s Candidate for St Luke’s Ward
I love living in Southend and particularly enjoy our parks, beaches and the sense of community but I know it’s far from perfect and we need changes. I’m proud to be standing in the May 2022 elections as Labour candidate to join Cllr Martin Berry in representing the people of St. Luke’s Ward to push for those changes. I feel I can make a difference to this ward, and the whole town (soon to be city), with all our other Southend Labour councillors.
I believe in Labour’s values of community, equality, tolerance and solidarity. My life experience has shaped my politics and it’s clear to me that we all need to work together in St Luke’s to reverse years of neglect under previous administrations. With Labour colleagues on the Council I will build on the great work implemented by the Labour-led coalition council since 2019. Work including the much-needed investment in road and pavement repairs, junction and crossing improvements, actions to improve housing and opportunities for local businesses and environmental policies that reflect the need for decent green spaces. It is important we have a fully Labour-led council to make the most of the opportunities that having city status for Southend offers in promoting economic growth and raising the profile of Southend nationally.
