Working hard for you

Southend is a large town which originally grew up as a traditional English seaside resort. Despite the national trend for holidays abroad it remains a popular day-trip destination with families, particularly from the East End of London.
Southend's biggest claim to fame is probably that it boasts the world's longest pleasure pier!
Whilst Southend's seafront, with the pier, Adventure Island, Sea Life Centre and traditional seafront amusments continue to attract large numbers of visitors. Although the tourist sector has declined in importance, new area's of employment have emerged. Southend's major employers include a large HM Revenue and Customs presence, a major RBS call centre and Key Med, a world-renown producer of medical equipment.
Southend has its own airport, which was at one time the third busiest in the entire country. After many years of decline it is again set to offer increased flights to short haul destinations and remains a vital asset to the economy of the area. The town also benefits from two railway lines, both less than hour from London, and in consequence is home to a significant number of commuters.
Southend holds a famous airshow held every year on the last weekend in May, when it plays host to some of the world's most famous flying displays.
