Residents’ parking - councillors give the go-ahead at last

residents parking victoria ward ian gilbertAs a result of the petition submitted by Councillor Ian Gilbert, and pressure from local residents in the area – Southend Council has decided to go ahead with a residents parking scheme for Maldon Road, Milton Street, St Ann’s Road, Guildford Road, Short Street, Prittlewell Street and Coleman Street.

This will restrict parking in the area between 9.30am and 4.30pm on weekdays to permit holders only. Residents will be able to obtain permits from the council for just a £15 per year fee to cover the administration of the scheme.

Victoria Ward Councillor Ian Gilbert says, “Commuter parking has made life very difficult for local residents for many years, and I’m delighted that we are finally going to get something done about it. Schemes like these are the only effective way to give residents priority to park in their own streets.

I have been careful to listen to residents’ views – this scheme has only gone ahead because a clear majority of those who responded to the consultation were in favour.”

If residents would like any further information, please feel free to contact Ian on 01702 339765 or email cllrgilbert@southend.gov.uk

Council officers have said that the scheme will be implemented by in the next few months and be reviewed after six months of coming into operation to see if any changes are needed to the scheme.
