The Labour Party in Southend West has selected former Southend mayor Reg Copley to contest the ward of St Laurence, at the local elections on May 7th.
Reg has been involved in local politics since the 1960s, and has served as mayor. More recently, he has been campaigning to keep Kent Elms library open.
"This year's election will bring the total number of elections I've fought to twenty. I am looking forward to continuing Labour's battle for better things for local residents."
Julian Ware-Lane, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Southend West, said,
"Reg's passion, dedication and inexhaustible energy fighting for residents in Southend is an inspiration. Reg's experience is something that I have had recourse to from time to time, and I know it will be of invaluable use in the council chamber. St Laurence voters could not ask for a better choice on their ballot paper."
