Petition to improve parking

mike royston labour

Former St Lukes ward councillor and Labour candidate in the May local elections, Mike Royston, is driving forward his campaign to get the Council to improve parking and protect grass verges for residents in Royston Avenue.

Last year, Mike Royston submitted a petition to Southend Council signed by many local residents, urging the council to install grass-crete to help residents to park and protect verges.

Mike Royston said, "Residents need to park their cars off the road (or at least partially on the grass verge) to avoid their wing mirrors being clipped or paintwork scratched by passing vehicles. But this tends to damage to the grass verges. I came up with the idea of the council installing grass-crete verges which would provide a firm surface for residents to park their cars on.

The beauty of grasscrete is that in addition to providing a firm parking surface it is designed to allow grass to grow through to retain an attractive street scene.

Mike added, "The Council installed bollards on the verges earlier this year, apparently without any formal consultation with residents. This seems to have made parking even worse, and resulted in buses having problems getting down Royston Avenue, because residents have to park totally on the road. I still feel my idea of grass-crete would offer the best solution, as it would improve parking, offer protection to verges, and widen the road space for buses and emergency vehicles.

I am continuing to seek residents views, and they can support my petition to improve parking and protect verges in Royston Avenue by signing my petition or emailing me at mikeroystonlabour@gmail.com
