The Labour Party in Rochford District have selected Matt Softly as their candidate for the by-election in Rochford ward later this month. Matt is a Rochford Parish Councillor and a keen Labour activist in the area.
The by-election, triggered by the death of sitting Conservative Councillor Lucas-Gill, will be held on Thursday 26th November.
Matt said, "I'm very pleased to have been selected by Rochford Labour to contest the November by-election in 2015. I have spoken to many residents about their concerns and currently serve as a councillor for Rochford Parish Council. For too long Rochford has felt ignored and abandoned by the local authorities - especially when compared with Rayleigh. I will work tirelessly and build on the excellent work of Jerry Gibson to make Rochford a better place to live and work, for everyone.
He added, "Our straight talking, open and honest approach has already shown that only Labour have the ideas and the commitment to deliver the best for Rochford."
Ian Gilbert, who contested the parliamentary seat of Rochford & Southend East at the general election in May, said, "Matt has been a fantastic advocate for Rochford since he moved there, and throughout was a mainstay of my own campaign in the Rochford part of the constituency. He would make an excellent addition to the Labour team on Rochford District Councillor, and voters could not ask for a more diligent or committed candidate."
