Martin Berry - Labour Candidate for Southchurch

Martin at Southchurch Library

Martin has been a local Labour Party campaigner for many years and has held various committee posts. He was active in supporting the successful ‘Save Southend A&E’ campaign and continues to fight against further proposed health service cuts. Martin has lived just off Southchurch Road for over 25 years and knows the local area and the issues affecting residents well.

Martin says, "After years of neglect from Conservative councillors and the sitting Independent - who does not even live in Southend - the time has surely now come for Southchurch to have proper local representation in the Council Chamber. My main priorities for Southchurch are decent standards of housing, including taking action against bad landlords, a crackdown on anti-social behaviour and petty crime, improvements to standards of education and better public transport. I shall continue to object to any changes to NHS services that are not in patients’ best interests and push for better GP and care services.

In wards where there are Labour Councillors residents receive frequent newsletters and personal contact and if elected I will do the same in Southchurch - people won’t just hear from me at election times. Along with my Labour colleagues I will conduct frequent drop-in advice sessions for any residents who need help or advice with council-related matters.

I live in the area and I like it but want to see improvements - a vote for me is a vote for a better Southchurch."
