Ian Gilbert is the Labour Party's candidate for Victoria in the 2016 Southend Borough Council Elections.
I live in Central Avenue, Southend, and work in an IT and data analysis role for a business based near Southend High Street. For the past two years I've served as Deputy Leader of Southend Borough Council, as part of the first non-Tory administration for fourteen years. I've been lived in Southend since 2001. I moved here from Birmingham, where I gained a degree in Economics & Political Science from the University of Birmingham.
It's been a privilege to serve local residents in Victoria ward, and I hope very much to have the chance to continue. Playing a key role in the first non-Conservative administration for fourteen years has been both a huge honour and a huge challenge, and one I'm keen to continue.
In Victoria ward I've worked alongside residents to oppose inappropriate developments, implement residents parking schemes, support community groups and residents associations.
I feel I have the ability and experience to continue to play a part in the running of the council, as we fight to save services from government cuts, support the local economy and improve the quality of our environment.
