It is a great honour for me to be selected as the Labour Party's candidate for the 2018 Southend Council elections. I have lived in the Southchurch area and worked in Southend for 27 years and therefore am very aware of the issues that affect residents living in this town. My children, both of whom are now grown up, attended the Hamstel and Cecil Jones Schools. I believe that speaking up for the best education for our children is one of the most important jobs for a Councillor.
I believe that the council should use the powers at its disposal to press for the best possible standards for housing, defending the rights of tenants and making sure that landlords fulfil all of their obligations. As a provider of social housing, the council must ensure that all accommodation is up to scratch and that all repairs, upgrades and maintenance work are carried out on time.
