Ian Gilbert has been selected by local members to be Labour's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election at a meeting held in Southend last weekend.

Ian has lived and worked in Southend-on-Sea since 2001. Since 2008, he has served as a hard-working Labour councillor for Victoria ward. He is currently Leader of the Labour Group.

Ian Gilbert, Labour’s General Election candidate for Rochford and Southend East said:

“I’m honoured that local members have selected me to be Labour's General Election candidate for Rochford and Southend East.

“People here are being let down by a Tory-led Government that is making working families pay more while millionaires are getting a tax cut. We need a One Nation approach to our challenges, not this government’s deeply divisive agenda.

“Day in, day out at Westminster James Duddridge, the Tory MP, has voted for policies that hurt people in Rochford and Southend. Families are worse off as the Tory-led Government stand by and do nothing.

“People here need an MP who is on the side of local jobs and local services.

“I've worked hard in standing up for our community in Victoria and am proud to have been given this opportunity to speak up for Rochford and Southend East.”
