Working hard for you

Mark Maguire of Pall Mall, Leigh is to stand for Labour in the forthcoming Leigh Town council by-election on March 8th. Mark, having been a councillor in Blackwood before moving to Leigh and contesting Chalkwell and Eastwood ward for the Lib Dems has decided to switch to the Labour Party.
Explaining why he has chosen to join the Labour Party, Mark said, "The continued Lib Dem support for the disastrous Health Bill, which will break up and privatise large chunks of the NHS is just one example of how the Lib Dems are letting down the people who elected them. In Leigh we're seeing the results of dreadful government policies, with the Police Station closing and other vital local services under threat. Our town has a cozy political establishment of Lib Dems and Conservatives and that needs shaking up."
Ian Gilbert, Leader of the Labour Group on Southend Council says, "I'm delighted to welcome Mark into the Labour Party, I very much hope that other local Liberal Democrats will see how much damage their government is doing and follow Mark's example. His energy and enthusiasm would be a great asset to Leigh Town Council."
Candidates from extremist right-wing political parties stood in previous Town Council elections and are standing again in Bonchurch. A local Labour candidate will ensure that people have a mainstream candidate to vote for and that Bonchurch Ward will not be represented by extremist politicians.
