Southend Energy - a partnership between Southend Borough Council and OVO energy company - has signed up around 1,000 domestic customers in the borough, who have saved an average of around £250 on their energy bills.
The energy supplied is on average much greener than that of the big six energy companies, with even the lowest tariff using 33% renewable energy. As the company moves into profit, local communities will benefit directly. For more information click here.
Meanwhile, the Joint Administration running Southend Council of which Labour is a part, is also pressing ahead with investment in renewable energy and other 'green' technology. It has recently signed off further investment in solar panels on public buildings, a biomass boiler for the Beecroft (former Central Library) building in Victoria Avenue, and our continued programme of installing LED street lamps.
