Working hard for you
Following reports that a homeless man had to be rescued from a fire at Carby and Heath House, Victoria Avenue last night, a councillor has blasted the developers for inaction.
Ian Gilbert, Councillor for Victoria Ward said, "I have warned on countless occasions that these office blocks are dangerous. I have been told that the developers have officially started work on the site in order to keep their planning permission current. This means that they have a duty to keep the site safe and secure, which they are clearly failing to do.
Emergency services had to risk their lives in these buildings last night, it's an utter disgrace. They are dangerous and they are terrible advert for the town. It seems clear to me that the developers don't care about the town. It's time for the council to stop dragging their feet and prepare a case for compulsory purchase of these blocks now."
