Conservatives still against council care homes

Despite the ongoing austerity imposed by central government, Labour councillors are still committed to keeping our council-run care homes in the public sector. Conservative Councillors look set to oppose this however, saying “these things are better done in the private sector".

A report setting out how the council administration, of which Labour is a part, is looking to raise standards and provide good quality social care for our elderly and vulnerable will be published early this year. Priory and Delaware care homes were threatened with closure when the Conservatives ran the council, but have been given a reprieve by the new joint administration, as we look to secure the long term future of care in the public sector.
