About our area

The constituency of Rochford & Southend East covers the Central and Eastern part of the Borough of Southend, including parts of Westcliff, Southchurch, Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness. It also includes the historic market town of Rochford, the village of Great Wakering as well as Little Wakering, Barling Magna, Sutton and Foulness Island.

Historically, the army has maintained a base in Shoeburyness, and owns a great deal of land where it tests munitions. The Ministry of Defence still regulates access to Foulness Island.

Most of the constituency falls within the area of Southend Borough Council, a Unitary Authority which separated from Essex County Council in 1999. There are currently four Labour councillors representing wards in this area, David NormanIan Gilbert, Margaret Borton and Judy McMahon.

The Southend West constituency covers Chalkwell, Eastwood, Leigh, Prittlewell and parts of Westcliff.
